The Mistress (The Original Sinners #4) by Tiffany Reisz

Rating 5/5 stars

Pub. Date July 30th 2013

Blurb:

The final book in The Original Sinners Series - The Red Years.

There's punishment-and then there's vengeance.

Nora Sutherlin is being held, bound and naked. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captor isn't interested in play. Or pity.

As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories-sensual tales of Søren, Kingsley and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It's a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

But in Nora's world, no one is ever truly powerless-a cadre of her friends, protectors and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak....

Review:

“I was going to pay every penny I had to get you back .... Every penny I could beg, borrow or steal. And he…he went to pay with his life.”

I am frustrated!!!! What an end!!! Now I am left with a burning question that was not been answered!!! Well it is hinted but I would love a confirmation. No Soren point of view (and that sucks big time)! But he speaks more than usual so I can compromise with that. I loved how obvious was Nora's choice was. I was really happy. I won't spoil it but I doubt that a real delima existed after The Prince. I think the end needed to be a little more extended because of the question!! and the fact that it felt a little abrupt for an ending and especially one of a series.

Soren is my favorite sadist in general and favorite character in the series. Grace is my second favorite and then Griffin and Michael come. Wes became pleasant towards the end, Zach is lukewarm, Kingsley is Kingsley. Nora is more complicated for me. I hated and liked her at the same time. In the end I had only positive feelings for her and that's what matters.

Another complain is the cut in half scene with Soren and someone (sorry no name to avoid spoilers). I wanted the full one. Hopefully in the prequels I will read a lot more and complete. The good news is that the story had a a guest star from a previous book (or two) and a mention of another.

Nora is the queen, Kingsley is the king, Wes the knight, Grace the rook and Laila the pawn. In my mind Soren is the person who controls all the pawns.

Friday Night Alibi by Cassie Mae

Rating 4/5 stars
Pub. Date July 29th 2013

Blurb:

Rising star Cassie Mae introduces New Adult readers to a practical soon-to-be college freshman who seems to have everything—until a special guy shows her what she’s been missing.

In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. For a generous fee, she will be every trust-fund baby’s dream: a Friday-night alibi, the “girlfriend” or “BFF” that parents dream about. With college approaching in the fall, Kelli’s services are in demand more than ever, which means that her social life is nonexistent. But Kelli is A-okay with that. She’s raking in cash for school. Besides, relationships are tricky, and sometimes very messy. She’d rather be at home on Xbox LIVE, anyway. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.

Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black., and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really knows her, like he cares about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.

Review:

After some thoughts and my inability to come with a proper and more than a line review I ended up to the conclusion that the book left me indifferent. It wasn't bad but for the first time I felt that a YA book should be read by people who are around the same age as the characters. Don't ask me how I came up with that, I have no idea myself. Two parts got me a little emotional. Also I got the urge to play HALO. Just like Kelli did but without the Friday-night-guy.

Her idea about the alibi thing was good but she had to stay inside her house and she was unable to go out with her friend. The one time she broke her rule she met Chase. As for the characters I will separate them in categories. I didnt like very much/ at all: Alex, her mother and Kelli's friend. Lukewarm feelings: Kelli I liked: Chase and her father.

And fot the end a pic of Chase (I didn't chose Joseph Gordon-Levitt the author did):

Elite (Eagle Elite #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Rating 3/5 stars
Pub. Date April 14th 2013

Blurb:

When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.

But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.

Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.

And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17.*

Review:

The 5 stars became 4 and then 3 (and later maybe more or less). Why? Because I got tired of seen triangles that shouldn't exist. Why did the author had to do that? Trying to find love it's hard already why make it harder?

Chase is a good best friend but nothing more. I want someone to point out to me when she fell in love with him. She should have friend-zoned him. It's so Bella-Jacob, that I want to puke (Team Edward here!).

I don't care what he did, I fell in love with Nixon. I thought that it would be fun to have someone to challenge you. The heroines usually fight back. This one didn't though. She cried and cried and cried and cried some more.

Trace is the weakest character I have ever seen, a little stupid and a lot the girl you don't want to be. She needs to grow a backbone or die. Anything else is not an option. After the sneak peak from the second book I can safely say that I hate her.

With all the secrecy and the mystery I thought that she was the key to start the apocalypse or something. She wasn't though :( . The truth was kind of boring ( I am not an easy girl to impress).

I really hope that the next will be better (it's Nixon's point of view) and the last in the series.

Excerpt #1—Everything I’ve Never Had by Lynetta Halat—Sept. 2013 (Unedited and subject to change.)
Adrian runs his hands up my arms and shoulders until they grasp both sides of my neck to tilt my head back so that I'm staring straight into his arctic blue eyes. I immediately start trembling, and it's not with fear. "Celeste, I'm begging you not to leave here looking like that. You look gorgeous, babe, but I can't sit here all night wondering who's hitting on you, who's imagining moving that scrap of fabric over to get a glimpse at what is..."
"What is what?" I breathe heavily.
"What is underneath it all." His brow wrinkles, and I feel his hands tighten their pleasurably painful grip. "What is underneath it all?"
"Just me, Adrian, just me," I breathe. "That's all."
"So everything then. Just like I thought." He removes one of his hands to run it up the back of my thigh. My eyes widen and I swallow hard.
"That's not a good idea," I whisper. His hand wraps all the way around my thigh, his fingertips coming to rest along the crease of my left cheek. My thigh pulses with fire.
"Why not?" His fingertips tease back and forth a little. Even though it’s a light touch, it feels like his calloused fingertips mark me.
"Why not? Look at us. We can't even have a civil conversation for everything that has passed between us, and you want to further complicate it. What you're doing will further complicate matters."
His hand stills. He exhales loudly and lets his head drop on my chest. "You do this to me. I don't act like this. That day in the park, watching you cross and uncross your legs. Throwing your hair over your shoulder. Laughing without a care in the world. Cheering me on like it was your favorite thing to do! It killed me. Killed me. I've never wanted a woman the way I want you. Never."
His words rain down on me like fiery drops of lust. I close my eyes and rewrite that memory. I thought he was just being an ass, but his unexpected anger was because he was yearning for me. I bite my lip, open my eyes, and shake my head. "It's just because you can't have me, Adrian. I'm nothing special."
"Oh, baby, you have no idea." He runs his nose up my throat, scenting me as he goes. I lean my neck back, giving him more access even as my brain screams at me to run—not walk—out of this room. But when he says, "You're everything to me." My head falls back even further and my eyes close again as I feel him slant his head and attack my chin, throat, and neck with closed-mouth kisses. I hear myself moan and give myself one more little jolt to try to spare myself from this delicious torment that will only end in frustration.

Along Came a Spider (Transplanted Tales #3) by Kate SeRine

Rating 5/5 stars
Pub. Date August 1st 2013

Blurb:

Along came a spider…

When Trish Muffet is attacked at a grisly crime scene, the last person she expects to come to her rescue is Nicky “Little Boy” Blue. But since walking away from everything two years before, Nicky’s been doling out vigilante justice as “The Spider,” taking on the vicious predators of the night in hopes it’ll lead him to his ultimate target – Vlad Dracula. And he needs Trish’s help.

Although Nicky’s renegade style goes against everything Trish stands for, she’ll do what she must to bring Dracula down. With danger stalking her, Trish knows the only person she can count on is the one man who has the power to leave her breathless. There’s no way she’s letting this spider frighten her away…

Review:

A have a feeling that if I had read the previous 2 books I would have understood some parts of the story better. Triss is a character I liked and she seemed a little kick ass too.

I liked the end with the Dracula. I wasn't expecting to feel sorry for the villain of the story. Plus what happened was a little surprising too ;) .

When I was reading the book I couldn't put it down. I was so focused and draw to the story. For me it belongs to easy and quick category without missing anything vital for a good read.

I could say that it was a mix of a police/mystery and the Once upon a time storyline, if I had to find something similar.

Thief (Love Me With Lies, #3) by Tarryn Fisher

Rating 4.5/5 stars
Pub. Date July 21st 2013

Blurb:

Note to Self

Love is patient; love is kind.
Love doesn't boast or brag.
There's no arrogance in love;
it's never rude, crude, or indecent-it's not self absorbed.
Love isn't easily upset.
Love doesn't tally wrongs.
Love trusts, hopes, and endures no matter what.
Love will never become obsolete.
I'll fight for her.

Thief

Caleb Drake never got over his first love. Not when he got married. Not when she got married. When life suddenly comes full circle Caleb must decide how how far he is willing to go to get the aloof and alluring Olivia Kaspen back. But for every action in life there is a consequence, and soon Caleb finds out that sometimes love comes at an unbearably high price.

Review:

She’s mine. She always has been, she always will be. We’ve been running in opposite directions for the last ten years, and we collide at every turn. Sometimes, it’s because we’re looking for each other, other times it’s fate. She has the kind of love that can stain your soul, make you beg not to have one, just to escape the spell she’s put you under. I’ve tried to break myself of her over and over, but it’spointless. I’ve got more of her in my veins than blood.

4.5 stars for the end in the Love me with lies trilogy.

“I’ll do whatever I have to do to protect you. I’ll lie, cheat, and steal to make you okay. I’ll share your suffering, and I’ll carry you when you’re weighed down. I’ll never leave you, not even when you ask me to. Do you believe me?”

The half star was lost in the epilogue. I wanted something more. I thought that Caleb deserved to have what he was dreaming to have and not only half of it. Aside that I was happy with the end, but I wasn't completely satisfied with it. I wanted to know what happened with some other characters too. Also I would like to take back any sympathy I might have felt for Leah in the previous book. That *itch deserves many things and none of them is good.

I wanted to fold myself around her andabsorb the rest of the blows life would deliver. That was the exact moment my heart threaded with hers. Itwas as if someone reached down with a sewing needle andstitched my soul to hers.

If I want to be honest I will have to admit that I was shipping Caleb and Olivia (and I don't think anyone didn't). So I started this one with the thought that I am about to read the way to Caleb and Olivia's happily ever after. Fisher made the book a torture. Olivia is still married to Noah but it's more than crystal clear that she loves Caleb and Caleb her.

“I love him.”
“More than me?”
The light drains from her eyes and she tries to look away.
I shake her. “More than me?”
“I don’t love anything more than you"

The flashbacks weren't necessary for me. That might be because I was so focused to what was happening to the present. They only made me hate Olivia's friend and see why Caleb was the one. Yes Caleb and Olivia are destructive for each other and toxic but they are also the best thing that has ever happened to the other.

I love the cover and the blurb. Caleb's point of view is my favorite of the three.

While I was reading the Thief this song came on the radio and I thought that it fitted Caleb and Olivia's story. Especially this one you know with Olivia being married to Noah and Caleb wanting Olivia to be his wife and mother of his children.

“She wil lbe your destruction. She’s not healthy.”

“Then let her destroy me.”

This one seemed like the soundtrack of all of their history.Without the beating stuff. Don't ask me why I find this song proper for them.

“Yeah, you got married, didn’t you? But, you only did it because you thought we were over — and we’re not over. We’ll never be over. If you think that little piece of metal on your finger can shield off your feelings for me, you’re wrong. I wore one for five years and there wasn’t a day that went by where I wasn’t wishing it were you.”

P.S There is a different point of view for a tiny part of the book. I was surprised when I read it and I am sure you will too.

P.S. 2 I want Sarah's story and maybe the story of a person who he saw in the trilogy but was a secondary character and didn't see much of him. (I can't say a name and spoil anything)

After the Kiss (Sex, Love & Stiletto, #1) by Lauren Layne

Rating 4/5 stars
Pub. Date August 26th 2013

Blurb:

Julie Greene has built a career out of falling in love. Literally. She’s Stiletto magazine’s resident expert on perfecting the first kiss and assessing whether or not he’ll call.

But when her latest writing assignment requires knowledge of relationships after the puppy-love phase, Julie faces a startling realization: she doesn’t know the first thing about staying in love.

To figure out what’s supposed to happen after the third date, Julie seeks out the most boring, reliable guy in all of New York. Mitchell Forbes has “long-term relationship” written all over his 401k. He’s calm, practical and utterly dull. Exactly the type of man she’s always avoided.

But Julie’s surprised to learn that Mitchell’s steady dependability is more than a little sexy; and that having someone to lean on is actually sort of…nice. Soon Julie’s feelings for Mitchell have nothing to do with her research and everything to do with her heart.

But will he forgive her when he learns that their relationship’s been based on a lie?

Review:

This one is actually good. If you can't tolerate the lying don't try to read it. As you can see from the blurb Julianna is lying to Mitchell. I could almost forget the motives behind the beginning of their relationship, if it weren't for some small reminders. Mitchell turned out to be the perfect guy for Julianna. He is not the boring guy he seemed to be. While he is not the God-like hero someone would expect but he is the one I could see as a real boyfriend, outside the world of book. Even though I did not always approved Juliana's actions I liked her

Love and Devotion by Jove Belle

Rating 1/5 stars
Pub. Date June 1st 2013

Blurb:

KC Hall loves her family, her small East Texas town, and her best friend, Emma Reynolds. All of that takes a backseat when her lover beckons. Lonnie is blond, beautiful, and willing. She’s also married and a lifelong friend of KC’s mama.

KC knows the affair is a bad idea, but she just can’t help herself. When presented with the lush landscape of Lonnie’s body, KC subscribes to the philosophy of orgasm first, think later.” Unfortunately, a secret that big is impossible to keep in a close-knit community where everybody knows everybody else’s business. The scandal would hurt her entire family.

Emma is KC’s exception, the one woman she loves enough to not have sex with. When Emma confesses that she’s loved KC since high school, KC is terrified. One wrong move and she could lose Emma completely.

Is she willing to let her family pay the price for her good time? Or will she turn to Emma to discover the true meaning of love and devotion?

Review:

Note: If you have a problem with lesbians don't read this book.

After reading the lurb I am sure you realised what this is about. I didn't have a problem with KC`s preference for a partner but with the decisions she made. I guess finding out that KC had an affair with a woman, who is 20 years older than her (that wasn't a problem either) ,  the mothers best friend and married with a daughter (A little cliche if you ask me and my problem with the book). Then a faint square cam with Emma, KC, Lonnie and Mara. And I don't understand why Trina and Jackson had to have that end.

I would like to add a contrast that the author created in the story. You see Emma and KC are open about their sexuality and dont try to hide it. But the fact that in Texas and especially in a small town like the one the girls live people are not open minded. Yet no one was looking either of the girls in a weird way. I hope that other F/F books are better than Love and Devotion. I will stick to M/M from now on.

Did the author wanted to show what real life is in America? You have seen some of those american shows? No. After some thinking and a talking with a book body I can to the conclusion that the author hates men. She made them seem like weak creatures that are not good enough for anything.

Curves and the Cowboy (BBW Romance - Coldwater Springs 1) by Jenn Roseton

Rating 4/5 stars
Pub. Date June 18th 2013

Synopsis:
When curvy Sarah Grant comes home to Coldwater Springs after spending six years in the city, the last person she expects to bump into is sexy Chase McCord. After having a teenage crush on him for years, she thought she was finally over him. After all, why keep fantasizing about someone you can never have? But when Chase makes it clear he’s ready to claim her for his own, Sarah finds it hard to believe him. Can he convince her they were made for each other?

Review:

Curves and the cowboy is a quick read (less that 20-30 min.) about two people who have loved each other for a long time but they had never a chance to express them. Now fate has brought them together again and they try to make things work out. I liked the story but it was too short.  The author managed to squeeze some insight about their past, their meeting, date and beginning of a happily ever after into a few pages. It was too easy to follow. The dual point of view made it even easier to see where the book was heading. Due to the books length I would suggest to someone to read the book if s/he thinks that the price is good.

The Marriage Merger (Marriage to a Billionaire #4) by Jennifer Probst

Rating 3/5 stars
Pub. Date July 30th 2013

Blurb:

Her sisters have found wedded bliss with their wealthy, wonderful dream men, but not Julietta Conte. She’s stayed on terra firma as top executive of the family’s corporation, La Dolce Famiglia bakery. Work is her passion, and her trendy Milan apartment her sanctuary . . . until Sawyer Wells, a masculine masterpiece in a suit, lures her out of hiding with an irresistible offer: an exclusive partnership with his international chain of boutique hotels.

Julietta’s been burned before—and trusting her brother-in-law’s friend, whose powerful gaze alone has her rethinking the best use of a conference room, is the riskiest proposition. But with a once-in-a-career chanceto take the bakery global, will she mix stone-cold businesswith red-hot seduction?

Review:

I changed my original rating from 4 to 3 stars. The reason is simple. I think that the books have lost their appeal and especially this one. Mama Conte is the Soren in the Marriage to a Billionaire books. Sawyer is one of the people I liked in this book. A plus is that Probst always makes her book in a way that we can see the other couples from the previous books. Wolfe must get a story for himself because is my second favorite character in the book and he deserves to find his soulmate. The end left me feeling a little confused. The Conte siblings might have found their soul mates but is there a chance that someone other will pick up the book and cast the spell, giving us a 5th book? I am not sure how I feel about that.

Bad goes to worse when she stirs up a crazy relationship with the town's not so warm and fuzzy veterinarian, Ian McFarland, in order to flag Mark's attention. So Ian is more comfortable with animals.... So he's formal, orderly and just a bit tense. The ever-friendly, fun-loving and spontaneous Callie decides it's time for Ian to get a personality makeover. But dang, if he doesn't shock the heck out of her, she might actually fall for Vermont's unlikeliest eligible bachelor....

Review:

At the first half Ian and Callie meet 4 or 5 short times. How were they supposed to fall in love if if they didn't knew the other? I hated Fleur and the way Marked was portrait in Callie's head. He was a flawless God. I was more than happy to see him becoming a flawed human in the end and the guy from the Russian Mafia opening up a little and becoming warmer and nicer.

There is only Callie's point of view but after a little thinking I came to the conclusion that it wouldn't have worked if the author tried to get inside Ian's head. He is a difficult person to understand and read after all.

A Really Awesome Mess by Trish Cook, Brendan Halpin

Rating 5/5 stars
Pub. Date July 23rd 2013

Blurb:

A hint of Recovery Road, a sample of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and a cut of Juno. A Really Awesome Mess is a laugh-out-loud, gut-wrenching/heart-warming story of two teenagers struggling to find love and themselves.

Two teenagers. Two very bumpy roads taken that lead to Heartland Academy.
Justin was just having fun, but when his dad walked in on him with a girl in a very compromising position, Justin's summer took a quick turn for the worse. His parents' divorce put Justin on rocky mental ground, and after a handful of Tylenol lands him in the hospital, he has really hit rock bottom.

Emmy never felt like part of her family. She was adopted from China. Her parents and sister tower over her and look like they came out of a Ralph Lauren catalog-- and Emmy definitely doesn't. After a scandalous photo of Emmy leads to vicious rumors around school, she threatens the boy who started it all on Facebook.

Justin and Emmy arrive at Heartland Academy, a reform school that will force them to deal with their issues, damaged souls with little patience for authority. But along the way they will find a ragtag group of teens who are just as broken, stubborn, and full of sarcasm as themselves. In the end, they might even call each other friends.
A funny, sad, and remarkable story, A Really Awesome Mess is a journey of friendship and self-discovery that teen readers will surely sign up for.

Review:

I loved the book. I honestly wasn't expecting to like it so much but I did. I remembered why I love YA books after reading this.

Justin and Emmy are two teenagers who suffer from something that could happen to you and me. Many girls want to have the perfect figure to get to that "chic double 0" as Emmy said. Emmy wants to look like a model and is happy when she sees her bones in the mirror. She is starving herself and leading her into an early grave. So her parents decide to send her to Assland/Heartland Academy.
Justin is depressed. Many people are these days. He is sent to Assland Academy to get better. He says that he feels numb.

There they meet 4 other kids. With a purpose they form a team and try to make things work out to get their reward. What I loved about that was seeing them, those 6 teenages acting selfishly in the beginning but as the book was processing seeing them work together, understand what the phrase team work means and forming bonds. They became better, healed a little.  I loved all of them. It doesn't matter if Emmy and Justin are the main characters.  These 6 teens will get into your heart.

In the end I had a positive feeling. Things can get better. As I turned the last page of the book I had a smile on my face and happy thoughts.
