Blurb:

Hensley Bradley is the definition of the girl-next-door. She’s kindhearted, beautiful, and talented. Bored with her mundane life, thoughts of fleeing her small town begin to consume her. With aspiring dreams to use her voice as a one-way ticket, she suddenly discovers that music might not be her only passion.

After a fallout back home, Colby Grant decides to leave his family’s farm, determined to show his father he’s more than just a wanna-be country singer. With his All-American good looks, it doesn’t take long for girls in his new town to focus their eyes on him. But things aren’t what they appear from the outside, and it isn’t long until Colby feels he doesn't fit into the perfect world that so quickly embraced him.

A chance encounter places Hensley in Colby’s path, but it isn’t her natural beauty that first captures his attention – it’s her voice.

When love and music mix, will the combination blossom into a beautiful melody or wither into a heart-wrenching tune?

Review:

“Sometimes I find myself fighting for air
I find myself looking, but you’re never there
Time does nothing to dull the ache in my chest
I know you left You were doin’ what you thought was best
Time hasn’t been on my side
I’ve been cooped up trying to hide from…

The pain, the hurt, the sorrow that rocks me to the core
The happiness, the laughs, it hasn’t been like it was before
You left
You fled
You shattered my heart and left me for dead
Like a dream I awoke, and I saw your familiar face
The pain, the hurt, the sorrow left without a trace
You’re back You’re here
I’d do anything to make the last year disappear.”

Is In the lyrics the usual (but totally lovable) story about someone who is trying to make a record deal and a career? No. The book is mostly about love coming first and then a big music career (I said mostly).

In the lyrics in Hensley and Colby`s story, told from their point of views. Both have something from their past that keeps them guarded but once they meet, they start to fall in love and then all bets are off. Obstacles come in their way and will they be able to fight them or will they fall apart?

“Once you love someone and give your heart to them, they own it. Trials and triumphs come along the way, but true love can overcome all of it. At least it’s supposed to. “

I liked most of the book. What I didn`t like was the change in Hensley altitude. She lacks when she is compared to Colby. She was selfish and self absorbed while Colby never did anything that wasn`t good for someone else besides himself. He is book boyfriend material. He was very sweet.

D. is a good character and I wouldn`t have minded if there was more of him. Logan and Brit should hook because they are a lot alike.

The whole story was going very smoothly and I liked that because the derived happiness, but I can`t understand why things took the wrong turn. If you are expecting a rocket man for a hero, then this is not your book. But if you decide to read it, be prepared to meet one of the most lovable guys ever.

“It’s like the first time you hear a song, it can be happy one, or a gut wrenching one. No matter what type of ballad it is, it’s the moment when you become part of it, when the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up, or the way that you relate the lyrics to your life or situation in that moment. Regardless of how you feel, it affects you.”
