Masked Innocence (Innocence #2) by Alessandra Torre

Release Date: February 25 2014

Blurb:

The man was sinful. It wasn't just the looks that made him dangerous, it was the cocky confidence that dominated every move, every touch. And the frustrating yet ecstatic fact about the whole package was that he could back it all up…

Julia Campbell never knows what to expect with win-at-all-costs Brad De Luca. And she's starting to like it that way. She gave up safe, conventional relationships when she let the elite divorce attorney seduce her into his world. Now that he's determined to strip her naked of every inhibition, she's in danger of falling too deep and too fast.

But their affair begins to feel even more dangerous when a murder leaves a trail of suspicion that points straight to the mob…and Brad. Trusting a man with a bad reputation and a past full of secrets seems like a mistake. But when she's forced to make a choice, the consequences will take her further than she could ever have imagined.

Excerpt:

Having two men at one time is a strange experience. My first time in a threesome, I was blindfolded, my senses heightened and restricted to touch, scent, sounds, and taste. Touch. The feeling of their hands on my bare skin, caresses, grips, slaps, and fucks. God, those long strokes of pure animal ownership. Scent. Fresh linen, candles, Brad’s unmistakable combination of godknowswhat that drove me absolutely crazy, my own sweat, the strange new scent of the stranger in the room. Sounds. Their ragged breaths, my own heartbeat pounding in my head, a primal groan, whispered words of reverence, the sound of flesh on flesh, of my own wetness. Taste. Tight, stretched skin in my mouth, Brad’s mouth on me, my own taste on their tongues, the eroticism of it all. And finally, the taste of completion when I milked them dry, the flavor of victory and carnal satisfaction. I had done it. I had gone there. And I had loved every minute of it.
Author Bio:

Hard as You Can (Hard Ink #2) by Laura Kaye

Rating: 4/5 stars
Publication Date: February 25 2014

Blurb:

Five dishonored soldiers.

Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can—and never let go.

Review:

I found a new series to stalk. The mission the guys have is not over yet and I want to know what is next for them. I want to see accomplishing their mission and getting what they lost. I regret that I hadn't read Hard as It Gets before I started Hard as You Can.

Shane and Crystal have similar personalities. They are very protective and caring when it comes to the people they love. I need to know what happened to Molly. Is there hope for her? Shane doesn't need to carry that guilt.

I don't see why you couldn't like the book. It has romance, a hot guy for a hero, guns and other similar things you will see in the movies about a secret mission and a mission that five soldiers have to complete. What more can you ask?

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

                                                   White Hot Kiss

Blurb:

One kiss could be the last. Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kill
the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever. Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul. But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

  EXCERPT:

“I don’t think of Zayne that way!” She laughed. “What man-parts-loving female in this world doesn’t think of Zayne that way? I can barely keep myself breathing when I see him. All the guys in school have squishy waists. I can tell Zayne doesn’t. He’s the awesome sauce with extra sauce.” That he was and he so didn’t have a squishy waist, but I tuned Stacey out at that point. I really did need to cram for this test and I also didn’t want my fantasies involving Zayne to occupy my mind right now. Especially after I’d woken up this morning, carefully tucked under the covers. The bed had smelled like him: sandalwood and crisp linen. “Oh, sweet baby Jesus in a manger,” Stacey murmured. I clenched my jaw, cupping my hands over my ears. She jabbed me in the side with her elbow. At this rate I’d be covered in bruises before lunchtime. “Our bio class just got a billion times more interesting. And hotter, lots and lots hotter. Holy mother, I want to have his babies. Not now of course, but definitely later. But I’d like to start practicing soon.” The cell wall is a thick and rigid layer covering the plasma something, something plant cells… Stacey stiffened all of a sudden. “Oh my God, he’s coming—” Composed of fat and sugar— Something slender and shiny fell from who knew where, landing in the middle of Sam’s notes. Blinking tightly, it took me a couple of seconds to recognize the faded and half peeled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sticker covering the back of the silver cell phone. My heart slammed against my ribs. Gripping the edges of the notebook, I slowly lifted my gaze. Unnaturally beautiful golden eyes met mine. “You forgot this last night.”

Some things should stay in the past – and others… Other things will come back with a vengeance.

Excerpt:
“It took a long time to find you, Ms. Elton.”
Oh, no. Oh, no. Misty looked up into the steady gray gaze of the giant of a man standing in front of her. No! She was safe. It had been a year — a full year. It was only a few months ago that she had let down her guard, had decided it was safe to live again, had gone back to her natural hair color.
Jesse had moved on, surely. He wouldn’t have stayed single this long. He had to have a woman to boss around — to beat up on, by now. He would still hate her, still want her dead, but he wouldn’t still be searching for her. There was just no possible way.
“I…uh…I don’t know who you’re referring to,” she stuttered, and she crept toward the door to the back room. She was working a crappy job at a fast-food joint. It was nondescript, possibly even considered a bit seedy, and they hadn’t blinked when she’d given them her false name, her poorly done fake ID. She sure as heck wouldn’t eat the food there, not with their lax views on hygiene. They hadn’t even made her get a food handlers card. But, the job was working for her for now, allowing her to save up for her next move – though she wasn’t saving much.
If she could just get through the door, get to her locker, then she’d be able to grab her Taser. She’d started leaving it in her purse just a few months ago. Up until that point, she’d carried it on her, keeping the small, but hopefully effective, device in her pocket, just in reach of her shaking fingers.
This was what happened when you grew lax. This would be what killed her.
“Please don’t be afraid. I’m here to help you.”
“I don’t need help. You have the wrong person,” she said, her voice more steady. He was watching her move toward the door, but he wasn’t taking a menacing step toward her — wasn’t reaching for the gun she knew he had to have on him.
She was close, so close. Inching a bit closer to the door, she kept her eyes on his hands. Those would tell her his next move. She’d become an expert at reading Jesse through his hands. The second they clenched she had known she was in trouble.
This man’s hands were sitting idly at his hips, just kind of hanging there. “Can I please sit down with you for a few minutes of your time? I won’t ask you to go anywhere alone with me.” His voice, she was sure, was supposed to convey trust.
That only made her more suspicious.
“Sorry. I have to get something from the back room.” She took her chances and darted through the door, not looking back as she made her way to her locker. Thankfully, it was open, since it was only her and one other kid on shift, who she actually trusted. She quickly reached into her purse.
When her fingers clasped around the small Taser, she felt her fear dwindling. It wasn’t as deadly as a gun, but it would knock a large man down long enough for her to get away.
        “Ms. Elton, please–”
He’d followed her. And he was grabbing her arm.
Misty didn’t hesitate. She turned back to face him and pushed the button on her weapon. His eyes widened with shock followed by a shot of pain as thousands of volts of electricity traveled through his skin into his stomach.
He released her arm, and Misty took a step, planning on getting the hell away — far away from him and this place. It was time to find a new city. She’d stayed too long, far longer than she had originally planned, but her car had died, and she hadn’t saved enough to move again yet. Almost but not quite. The heck with it now, though. She’d take a bus, and live in a shelter for a while.
She wouldn’t be returned to Jesse, not ever again.
When the man’s hand snaked out and grabbed her leg, tripping her, Misty gasped. She got ready to use the stun gun again, longer this time.
“I don’t think so,” he growled between clenched teeth. He smacked the gun from her hand and pinned her beneath him.

Tyler & Stella (Tattoo Thief #2) by Heidi Joy Tretheway

Publication Date: February 20 2014
Rating: 3/5 stars

Blurb:

Stella Ramsey always says bad boys can’t break your heart. They don’t call, don’t cuddle and don’t send flowers—but what do you expect? For Stella, no strings means no regrets.
When the biggest story of her fledgling career as a music journalist nearly ruins her relationship with her best friend, Stella has one chance to redeem herself. Tyler Walsh could be that chance.
Stella promises the bassist for the rock band Tattoo Thief anything in exchange for behind-the-scenes access. But Tyler doesn’t want anything. He wants everything—and that’s more than Stella is prepared to give.
When Tyler’s explosive secret thrusts Stella into the media spotlight, she must choose between the selling the story and telling the truth—and exposing the truth about herself as well.
Tyler & Stella (Tattoo Thief #2) is a sizzling story of lust, lies, and sacrifice, revealing how much love can forgive.

Review:

It's not going to be a favorite of mine. After reading it and having some time to process everything I can say that it was not as bad as I thought it was when I finished it. I even changed my original two star rating to a three.

Two things made me dislike the book and if you are fine with them when you will probably like the book. The first is a big NO from me and I am always disappointed when it happens. What is it? A betrayal of a friend. If that friend is your best friend that you are on my black list for at least a while. Stella betrays Beryl by making public something very personal known to the whole world to bust up her career. She was lucky Beryl was so forgiving.

The second thing was Stella's drinking problem. I would have liked a warning that Stella was one step from becoming a serious alcoholic. She was downing tequila shots like it was water and while the others had finished one glass of their drink she was already semi drunk. To get courage you drink one shot not 5. That girl must need a new liver by now. She should be grateful that Tyler helped her.

As you probably already got I didn't like Stella. Tyler seemed ok most of the time. I wanted to see what was on his mind, but the story is only being told form Stella's point of view. How frustrating was that!

Taking Something (Give Me Something #2) by Elizabeth Lee

Rating: 3.5 stars
Publication date: February 18 2014

Blurb:

I know what you're thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!”  Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I'd always been selfish.  But I changed.  Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world.
At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label's good graces.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether.
Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?
Review:

I have never read before a book that it has only a male point of view. Nick is the only person who tells the story and I think that happened to keep the reader guessing with whom he would end up with. I haven't read the first book, but from what I got he was involved in a triangle before. Not many people can say that they were a part of a triangle more than once. It's clear that Nick is only using Sadie, but you never know what is going to happen. I had the feeling that the book would turn out to be something similar to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I was freaked out (a lot!).

Nick was a likeable character most of the time. Gia was good. Landry is the one I loved and I wanted to see him happy. I was about to demand a book about him, but the author covered that in her story. Sadie is the craziest person I have ever seen in a book. What I didn't like was the similarity Sadie had with Miley Cyrus. A sweetheart who got famous while she was young by singing and acting, now wants to act more sexually and leave her sweet persona behind.

I want to warn you that the book contains cheating. I know that everyone is not ok with that and I thought the reader should know. I have already told you about the triangle so I won't comment further. I would  also like to warn you about Nick's way's of persuasion.

Author bio:

When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand.  Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination!  Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!

The Deep End of the Sea by Heather Lyons

Rating: 5/5 stars
Publication Date: February 13th 2014

Blurb:

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea. A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back .

Review:

You want to know why I haven’t married yet? Because I have yet to
ask the girl who owns my heart entirely, let alone actually tell her
what she means to me. I’ve been too selfish to do so, because I’ve been fearful that once I do, things will change between us for the worse if she does not feel the same way, and I know I can’t lose her. So I’ve held on to what we have, even though I want to be with her more than anything else in the entire universe. See, I am completely, irrevocably, in love with the best person I know. And I have been for a very long time.”

I want more Medusa and Hermes!! I loved those two both as individuals and as a team. I wouldn't mind a novella about them in the future. I am going to read this book again someday. I was hooked from the beginning. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of Greek mythology books or not, I guarantee you will at least like The Deep End of the Sea. I loved it!

Book boyfriend alert! Hermes has officially become a book boyfriend. He has done so many things for Medusa and sees her as the person she is. He fought for her. He was sweet and amazing. I shipped Dusa and Hermes from the first page.

Meadows is a lovely girl. She has compassion and a big heart. She doesn't want anyone to be harmed and that's the reason she sees herself as a monster. I never thought of her that way and I don't think anyone will. She is selfless. I would love someone like her as a friend.

Medusa is not the creature everyone thought she was. She has a kind heart and deeply regrets that she took some lives. She of course didn't do it on purpose, but the guilt was there. She lives isolated on an island and only has 2-3 people she can call friends. One of them is Hermes (the Greek God) who wants justice to be served, since Medusa was being punished for something she had no control over. The curse is finally lifted, but Hermes must now protect her from two Gods, how are both after her...

Author Bio:

Heather Lyons has always had a thing for words—She’s been writing stories since she was a kid. In addition to writing, she’s also been an archaeologist and a teacher. They’re happily raising three kids who are mini music fiends who love to read and be read to.
