Review: Getting Rough (Monkey Business Trio, #2) by C.L. Parker

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Blurb:

The next sizzling novel of C. L. Parker’s Monkey Business Trio—perfect for fans of Bared to You and Beautiful Bastard
Hotshot San Diego sports agent Shaw Matthews and his sexy professional adversary Cassidy Whalen have gone head-to-head in the boardroom—and the bedroom. Now Shaw has scored a big promotion—but only because Cassidy turned it down and ran off. There are many things he wants when it comes to Cassidy—just not her pity. So Shaw rushes to a small town in Maine to retrieve his dignity—and maybe the woman he’s hungry to claim once more.

Cassidy has pushed herself to the max to realize her career dreams—until a family crisis brings her home. But Shaw isn’t letting Cassidy go that easily. Neither is gorgeous heartthrob Casey Michaels, the childhood sweetheart she left behind—and who now wants to win her back. As the rivalry between the two alpha males intensifies, and Shaw’s seductive moves reach a whole new level of heat, Cassidy has to make a choice. And this time, it’s for the highest stakes of all.

Getting Rough is intended for mature audiences.

Review:

Getting rough is the continuation of Shaw and Cassidy's story. The story begins with Shaw chasing after Cassidy, whose mother is in the hospital. That means that Cassidy has to stay in her hometown and so does Shaw which also leads to the appearance of Casey, who happens to be Cassidy's sweetheart and the man whose name is tattooed on her. . And as you might have suspected that led to a love triangle of sorts. I didn't really need to see the heroine kissing another man 12 chapters into the book. And that kiss could have led to more. Yeah for me! And for Shaw.

To be honest, I didn't want to read a book where half the time Cassidy is all about Casey and her getting jealous over Mia and Casey while she is messing with Shaw. The man traveled a long way to find her and she is preoccupied with Casey. Way to ruin my day, dear author. I am not sure if I want to read any of your books anymore. Maybe I will finish the series and then say BB to the author because I don't think I will like what's going to happen next on Shaw and Cassidy. The preview of the prologue of the third book gives the reader a glimpse and in my opinion, it could have been an epilogue to the story.

Besides Cassidy and Shaw's story we get to see Casey and Mia's. Mia is a new character introduced in this book as an author who is doing research for her book. Quinn also gets a happy ending even though you never see that coming. It felt weird and out of place.

Overall the book was like a soap opera to me and it was a little rushed in some parts. I would have liked more focus on Shaw and Cassidy's relationship, rather than the Shaw-Cassidy-Casey thing.
