Is is bad that every time I think of this book the first thing that comes in my mind is that Julian and Kendall's book is next? I know Julian wasn't a good person, but I also know that he cared about Kendall and I am dying to see them together. I don't know when their book is going to be released, but I am not above giving a kidney to get that book. (I am keeping the other one for William's book of the LOTU series). Derek and Cassie's story was a good one. Cassie came from a snob-ish family and social circle, but she has become a very likeable and sweet person unlike her brother and father. I hated that her entitled brother took her position just because he was male. Of course Derek tried to take her company so you also have that. What made him the hero of the novel instead of the villain is that once he got over his need for vengeance he tried to help her. I get why Derek was so mad at Cassie's family, but not why he was mad with her.I might have wanted Cassie to act differently all those years ago, but she was a young girl and she wasn't exactly mean. Derek now, wants to make her hurt, but his developing feelings kept him from doing so. To be honest, once Kendall and Julian were mentioned all my other thoughts about the book and the characters disappeared. I have way to high hopes for their book. Carly Phillips knows how to write a book that will give me some feels and make me enjoy her books. Going down hard was the first book I read on my vacation and it was a great way to start relaxing and having a good time. So far every book I have read from Carly Phillips was worth recommending, and this one is not an exception.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I started reading passion restored with a low battery level. I kept reading and reading and the battery was still holding on. Can you guess when it finally gave up? Right when the hot things started happening. Right in the middle my phone died and I died with it. Some really good stuff were happening and I had to wait to see what naughty things were going to happen next. The chemistry between Liz and Owen was there from the first time they met, but nothing happened for a while and Owen was pursuing her. I got to see my favorite triad and I once I liked two people together and they are going to end up together in the next book in the series. I had a little trouble understanding Liz, but that was the only thing I didn't like in the book. I can't say that I was disappointed while reading the book. So far I have liked all of Carrie Ann Ryan's work and I hope that streak will continue. I found myself relating to Owen because I also love lists and organisation. Once I found out we have that in common I fell for him. Liz was a little harder to understand, but for most of the time she was nice and I liked her. The story and the characters are good and the reader will have a great time while reading Passion restored.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Here is a fun fact. Before "If the duke demands" I had read only one book from this author and it was "How I Married a Marquess" where the heroine is the sister of the Carlisles, coincidence? I think not. In If the duke demands we have Sebastian and Miranda. Miranda is in love with Robert, Sebastian's brother and is set on seducing him and showing him that she is the woman he should be courting and eventually marry. Unfortunately for her, she ends up in Sebastian's room, but things end before anything good happens and he sends her home. The next morning Sebastian's mother informs him that she intents to give Miranda a chance at having a season and meet a gentleman to marry and that's where all the fun begins. I was okay with both of my main characters having some potential interest because it was obvious nothing would happen, though Sebastian and Jane kissed once. I really wanted to read about what would have happened if Miranda had witnessed that. The author had plenty of chances to make this story more dramatic and with a lot more angst, but she chose not which to disappointing me a little to be honest. I wanted something more and that wasn't delivered. I liked the parts where Miranda or Sebastian would get jealous, but I would have loved to see some angst as the book deserved. Also, I got greatly disappointed when I found out that Quinton would get the next book and that would leave Robert in the third and final book (3 brothers=3 books, right?). Robert has already found his woman, hasn't he? I don't want to see some silly drama that will end his courtship with her. From the scene where Miranda spied them, I thought that they would make a good couple and I actually liked the gal. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. The book was good and I will be recommending it.

Author Bio

jeannette-pic  Jeannette Winters is a romance author mixing heart, intrigue, and the steamy pleasure of a Billionaire romance. Jeannette grew up in a large family, number ten out of eleven children, eight of them being older brothers. She quickly developed a great sense of humor, mostly from necessity. One of her greatest joys is sitting on the porch where they were all raised and hearing the stories from years gone by. Quietly laughing to herself, she notices how they embellish the stories more and more each year. Storytelling was passed down from her grandfather and mother. Jeannette caught the bug at a very young age. If she didn’t have her head in a book, then she was off somewhere with a notebook, jotting down stories of what she would write if one day she became an author. Although the notebook may have vanished, the stories are still vivid and waiting for the right time to be told. Despite having an amazing family, there have also been some sorrows in her life, including the loss of loved ones. Over the years, Jeannette has spent countless hours volunteering for different organizations and acting as a caregiver to those most dear to her. As a result, supporting the elderly became of utmost importance.

Review: My Fair Duchess (Dukes Behaving Badly #5) by Megan Frampton

An unexpected duchess proves that behaving
badly isn't exclusive to the Dukedom.

MY FAIR DUCHESS
Dukes Behaving Badly #5
Megan Frampton
Releasing Feb 28, 2017
Avon Books

In Megan Frampton's most recent installment of The Dukes Behaving Badly series, an unexpected duchess proves that behaving badly isn't exclusive to the Dukedom.

The Unexpected Duchess

Archibald Salisbury, son of a viscount, war hero, and proficient in the proper ways of aristocratic society, has received orders for his most challenging mission: Genevieve, Duchess of Blakesley. How she inherited a duchy isn’t his problem. Turning her into a perfect duchess is. But how can he keep his mind on business when her beauty entices him toward pleasure?

It was impossible, unprecedented…and undeniably true. Genevieve is now a “duke”, or, rather, a duchess. So what is she to do when the ton eyes her every move, hoping she’ll make a mistake? Genevieve knows she has brains and has sometimes been told she has beauty, but, out of her depth, she calls on an expert. And what an expert, with shoulders broad enough to lean on, and a wit that matches her own. Archie is supposed to teach her to be a lady and run her estate, but what she really wants to do is unladylike—run into his arms.

Review:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My fair duchess was a delight to read. I loved the letter in the beginning of each chapter and I can say that I loved the book, even if the duchess made a mess somewhere down the road. The little dose of angst was perfect. The ride was very enjoyable and I was happy to see something new in a historical novel. Almost all the romance books I read (historical and contemporary) have the hero in a position of power, but in My fair duchess the roles are reversed. Genevieve  is the one who inherits the title and Archie is her butler and tutor. He is helping her become a good duchess and fill in her position as well as any man did at the time and even better (she helps her people after all, unlike some other dukes).  Poor Genevieve had no one to prepare her for what was going to come. Neither Genevieve or Archie expected to fall for the other, but the connection is there from the first time they see each other. It's not insta love and the characters have time to develop their feelings into something more than attraction. I wasn't expecting it, but I finished the novel with a smile on my face. I have found another author to follow and anxiously wait for their next release. I have loved all the books I have read by her so far and I hope that streak will continue.

I was a very happy passenger on Genevieve's journey. I got to see her and Archie fall for each other through the lessons he have her and the letters they wrote even if they didn't send them. Genevieve came close to ruining thing, by proposing something unexpected to me. I was waiting for her to say the right words (as did Archie), but in her effort to make things work she made them worse. I was very happy when I saw her trying to fix things up instead of waiting for Archie to do it. This is the kind of heroine I want. She was strong and fierce and caring. Archie was a good hero who knew what Genevieve needed and his actions showed that he didn't mind that Genevieve had more power than him as some insecure man would have felt.

There is only one tiny thing that disappointed me and that's the lack of reunion between Archie and his family. I wanted to see something grand and a couple of tears falling. After I finished the book I went for the 4 stars, but I just couldn't write that down, so I went for the 4.5 and it still didn't work. The final 5 star rating I am giving to My fair duchess feels well deserved and I really hope the readers will love this book as much as I did. The book has also earned a nomination for my top 10 books of 2017 (in 2016 I didn't manage to find 10 books, but this year seems to have better books). I can't wait for the next book to be released.

Excerpt:

1845, Lady Sophia’s Drawing Room

“There’s only one solution,” Lady Sophia said, passing the letter to Archie as he felt his stomach drop. And his carefully ordered life teeter on the verge of change. “You’ll have to go to London to sort my goddaughter out.” She embellished her point by squeezing her tiny dog Truffles, who emitted a squeak and glared at Archie. As if it was his fault.

He resisted the urge to crumple the paper in his hand. “But the festival is in a few weeks,” Archie said, hearing the desperate tone in his voice. He did not want to ever return to London. That was the purpose of taking a position out here in the country after leaving the Queen’s Own Hussars a year prior. His family was there, and his father, at least, had made it clear he never wanted to see him again. What’s more, he did not want to assist a helpless aristocrat in some sort of desperate attempt to bring order to their lives. Even though that was what he was doing in Lady Sophia’s employ. But working for her had come to have its own kind of satisfactory order, one he did not want to disrupt.

“There is work to be done,” Archie continued, hoping to appeal to his employer’s sensible side.

Although in the course of working for her he had come to realize his employer didn’t really have a sensible side, so what was he hoping to accomplish?

“Didn’t you tell me Mr. McCready could do everything you could?” Lady Sophia asked. “You pointed out that if you were to get ill, or busy with other matters, your assistant steward could handle things just as well as you.”

That was when I was trying to get one of my men work, Archie thought in frustration. To help him get back on his feet after the rigors of war. And Bob had proven himself to be a remarkably able assistant, allowing Archie to dive into Lady Sophia’s woefully neglected accounts and see into her investments, neither of which she paid any attention to.

Lady Sophia placed Truffles on the rug before lifting her head to look at Archie. Who knew, in that moment, that he was doomed. Doomed to return to London to help out a likely far-too- indulged female in the very difficult position of being a powerful and wealthy aristocrat.

Perhaps it would have been easier to just get shot on the battlefield. It certainly would have been quicker.

“It’s settled.” She punctuated her words with a nod of her head, sending a few gray curls flying in the air. “You will go see to the new duchess and take care of her as ably as you do me. Mr. Mc-Cready will assist me while you are away.”

Archie looked at the letter again. “This duchess is your relative?” he asked. That would explain the new duchess’s equally silly mode of communication. An “unexpected duchess,” indeed. What kind of idiot wouldn’t have foreseen this circumstance? And done something to prepare for it?

“She calls me aunt, but she is not my actual niece, you understand,” Lady Sophia explained. “She is my goddaughter; her mother married the duke, the duchess’s father. It is quite unusual for a woman to inherit the duchy.”

“Quite,” Archie echoed.

“But it happened, somehow, and since I don’t know anything about being a duchess . . .” Because I do? Archie wondered. But there wasn’t anybody else. She wouldn’t have asked Lady Sophia, of all people, unless there was nobody else.

Or if she was as flighty and confident as her faux-aunt. A scenario that seemed more and more likely.

“The only thing Mr. McCready can’t do is attract as much feminine interest as you do, Mr. Salisbury.” She sat back up and regarded him. “Which might make him more productive,” she added. She leaned over to offer Truffles the end of her biscuit.

Archie opened his mouth to object, but closed it when he realized she was right. He wasn’t vain, but he did recognize that ladies tended to find his appearance attractive. Lady Sophia received many more visitors, she’d told him in an irritated tone, now that he’d been hired.

Bob, damn his eyes, smirked knowingly every time Archie was summoned to Lady Sophia’s drawing room to answer yet another question about estate management posed by a lady who’d likely never had such a question in her life.

Archie responded by making Bob personally in charge of the fertilizer. It didn’t stop Bob’s smirking, but it did make Archie feel better.

“And you will return in a month’s time so you can be here for the festival.”

“Sooner if I can, my lady.” If this duchess needed more time than a month, there would be no hope for her anyway. Country life suited him; he liked its quiet and regularity. It was a vast change from life in battle, or even being just on duty, but it was far more interesting than being the third son from a viscount’s family. A viscount who disowned his third boy when said boy was determined to join the army.

Meanwhile, however, he had to pack to head off to a new kind of battle—that of preparing a completely unprepared woman, likely a woman as flighty and often confused as Lady Sophia, to hold a position that she was entirely unsuited for.

Very much like working with raw recruits, in fact.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

*The review contains some adult content*

I liked Caramel beach more than I liked Life lessons in pure life. Unfortunately, though, that doesn't mean much since I still wasn't blown away with the story. Some things about this story were cringe worthy. When I read about the bride's habits in her bed and read about her kissing Lia twice I got my wtf face on. I would love to know how and why the author came up with that stuff. I decided to include a few sentences where that could sum up the dafukness of what I read. "Diego swipes his hand over his thigh, washing away his sperm like it's nothing. Millions of tiny Diegos swimming free. They'll probably burrow into the ocean floor and evolve into a super-race of mermen or something" Please tell why would a grown woman would think like that. I am starting to believe that she was on drugs the whole. Am I supposed to take that book seriously after that? Or should I consider it like a failed attempt to make a little humor?

I wasn't satisfied with the way things ended. Diego and Lia's story didn't seem to have a conclusion in this book and I think that another book will be on the way. The writing style still bugged me. It's the same as it was in the first book. At least the characters had some time to develop (or in Lia's case under development). This series/duet wasn't for me. It took me way too long to finish two books will less than 500 pages combined. I found myself doing stuff in order to get out of reading the book. Maybe you will like it more, but Caramel beach wasn't my cup of tea.

Excerpt:

We meander back to the hostel in the wet sand, the surf to our left. The moon is full and bright, bouncing off the gentle waves that roll into the bay.

My first few months in Costa Rica were rich with the exhilaration of my new environment. I landed in the lap of a whole new life, just like that. After working all month in Pacifica without him, being with Diego again sends those early memories bobbing up to the surface. He’s got this sharp energy beneath the layers and layers that make up a man. Intimidation is what he inspires, followed closely by strange physical sensations that spell your undoing. He triggers an energy in me that could tear the hood off a car. And I’m sure as hell not on flakka.

He slides his arm around my waist like he can hear me. We walk a few steps before he stops and turns to face me.

I wouldn’t hate it if you’d let me hold you.”

The waves crash endlessly behind us, a soaking wet heartbeat. I’m still strung up in his words when he closes the empty space between us.

You’re on fire,” he tells me, hands making a ring behind my back so we’re suspended in some kind of stained glass embrace.

Hey, thanks.”

You sure know how to put yourself together, gringa.”

Blush.

I’m not the only one.”

He sighs and I wait patiently. Indecision slows his expression, crystalizing in his delay.

Whatever it is goes away.

Did you enjoy your time, you know, without me distracting you?” he asks.

It was busy, but we got a lot done at the new school. I can’t complain.”

I wish you would.” He pulls me in closer.

That one gets me. His slow kiss disappears everything around me before I’m even sure it’s happening. Lips softer than I remember, the light scrape of his chin on mine. A rugged feeling so welcome it can stay for dessert.

You’re trouble,” he breathes.

The best kind of it,” I reply.

There’s nothing I can do about it, is there?”

I doubt it.”

Bowing his head, he lowers his eyelids.

I forgot what this is like,” he laughs tiredly, rubbing his cheek with his hand. “You still take me by surprise.” He tilts his head, considering me tenderly but wincing, like it hurts to admit it.

Watch and see my defenses lower to unprecedented depths.

I press against him, not sure whether I’m teasing him or me. His palm is warm on the back of my leg.

How’d you get your skin so soft, anyway?” he whispers, stroking my thigh gently until it evolves into a grasp, the tips of his fingers pushing into my flesh.

Magic.”

It’s working.”

I laugh, breathless. “So what do you wanna do?”

Right now?”

I nod.

He pulls me in by the bottom with both hands. “Get to know you all over again.”

Tossing caution aside like an old winter coat, she plunges headfirst into an exotic cocktail of sensory pleasure.

Diego is a local whose surfer body and cool detachment make Lia buzz with a long-lost thrill. Fascinated by her new environment, she can’t help but wonder about the moody inner workings of the boy with triceps like Wolverine and a grimace to match.

Diego seems to have no problem ignoring Lia, though. Caught up in his family’s conflicted attitude toward foreigners, he notices her only when it’s convenient. But as Lia thrives in her new surroundings, Diego might just find reason enough to defy his embattled, insular father. When north and south are mixed together, the results are intoxicating.

Review:

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I will begin this review stating that the only reason I finished this book is a) because I had to review it and b) because I had to read the second book in the series, which will be a novella that follows Diego and Lia. I wasn't able to get into the story while reading the first chapters, so I found it difficult to read the rest of the book. The first couple of chapters felt off to me and the author's writing wasn't something I was used to. It felt cold and sterile. It took me way too long to finish the book because of that. I felt as if the wrong things were pointed out while the ones that mattered didn't. Just when I started getting into the story the book ended. And I can't say that I was disappointed. I wasn't able to develop a connection with the book, so I cannot say anything positive about it. I am not sure if it was mentioned, but how is Lia teaching English to people whose native language is Spanish when she doesn't know the language? Did I miss that? Can someone tell me what I missed? Also, when Diego stopped being the douche and became a love interest for Lia? I missed that transition too. I hope you will like the book more than I did.

  THE HOT ONE - cover

A sexy new standalone romance from #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely…

Ever notice that sometimes a guy will do something really stupid, like let the love of his life slip through his fingers?

Yeah. I'm that guy. But the instant I run into her again I’ve got one goal and one goal only—a second chance. The plan? Go big or go home.

Fine, at first glance, stripping naked at my ex-girlfriend's place of work might not seem like the brightest way to win her heart again. But trust me on this count—she always liked me best without any clothes on. And sometimes you've got to play to your strengths when you're fighting an uphill battle. As a lawyer, I know how to fight, and I'm prepared to fight hard for her. Because sometimes you need a second chance at first love.

He's the one who got away . . .

The nerve of Tyler Nichols to reappear like that at my job, showing off his rock-hard body that drove me wild far too many nights. That man with his knowing grin and mischievous eyes is nothing but a cocky jerk to saunter back into my life. Except, what if he's not . . .? I've tried like hell to forget him, but maybe I'm cursed to remember the guy I fell madly in love with eight years ago. Lord knows I’m not over him, so what's the harm in giving him a week to prove he's changed in the ways that matter?

After all, how do you resist the hot one . . .?

Royally Matched (Royally, #2) by Emma Chase

RM-FB-on-sale-5       Royally-Matched-3D-book

Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap. He’s not handling it well. Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own: Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition. A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world's most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart. While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye. The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor. But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight. As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

Review:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Royally Matched is the second book in the Royally series and it follows Henry and Sarah. Henry is the prince of Wessco and Nicholas brother. He wasn't meant to become Wessco's next king, but his brother chose Olivia over the throne and now it's Wessco is Henrys responsibility. Henry doesn't seem to be the most fitting person for ruling at first sight, but there is more to him than it seems. Sarah is a bookworm like most of the people who will read this book and I am sure  many of you will identify with her as I did. For most of the book she is a good, likeable and rational person. Once her sister said some stupid things to her, though she stopped thinking and fell for whatever Penelope said. It was like she didn't know Henry at all. Of course the sisters aren't the only ones whom I blame for this. If Henry had spoken to her instead of just doing things some events wouldn't have happened. For me this is the part where things started and went downhill for me. I felt like the drama was created for the sake of having some drama in the book and it felt a little off. Also, once the figured things out, both of them did some things (I can not say, because it will spoil some parts of the book) that even if they sort of make sense weren't things I liked and I didn't find them fitting. If I exclude those things I will be able to say that Royally matched was a good book and it made me chuckle. It wasn't as good as Royally Screwed, but it's still a good story.
